Dance Central               7 May 2017

SENIOR CONCERT INFORMATION, REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES. All at John Curtin College of the Arts, Ellen St Fremantle.

We hope everyone is enjoying the concert preparation experience and are looking forward to the performances – not long to go now !

 Rehearsal: SUNDAY 11th of June.

All students are required to attend THE COMPULSORY Full Dress Rehearsal on the Sunday 11th June. Please see the separate rehearsal sheet.

ONE Performance ONLY: SUNDAY 11th of June, commencing 5pm-7pm.

We would like our concert and preparation to run as smoothly as possible. With many children and families involved we would hope you can follow our guide lines, to ensure everyone’s enjoyment and well being, thanks.

 TICKET SALES

We are using www.trybookings.com again to manage our concert tickets. This is an online service where you purchase your tickets directly and independently of Dance Central. Their website will be able to take your bookings as of Sunday 14th May from 9am. The ticket price for Adults is $38.00 and Children $18.00. Bookings will close 9am, Saturday 10th June.

Go to the link on our facebook page, Dance Central North Fremantle or go to our website www.dance-central.net for the URL. Highlight, then right click.

COMPULSORY “FULL DRESS REHEARSALS” on stage.

The commitment to the performance involves being available for the rehearsals. The Full Dress Rehearsal is compulsory for all students. If a student is absent from the Full Dress Rehearsal, we need to choreograph them out of the performance. It is a health and safety issue if a child has not rehearsed with their group and does not know where to stand on stage.

A FULL DRESS REHEARSAL means: make-up, hair and costume, EXACTLY as worn in the concert. (NO jewellery, tattoos or nail polish thanks) This prepares the children for the concert, with no unwanted surprises on the day.

Please arrive at the rehearsal with hair and make-up already completed.

The dress rehearsal is run in the order of the concert, so as the lighting and technical staff can plot the performance. The children are called for approximately 90 minutes per item (unlike many dance schools who call them for 8 hours and run the concert several times). Please bring you own water bottle and a healthy snack to the rehearsal, as we are not sure if we have the man power to run a tuck shop during the rehearsals. We would love to be able, so if any Parents can help for the period of time that your child is in rehearsal, please let us know.

NO PARENTS OR VISITORS IN THE AUDITORIUM FOR THE FULL DRESS REHEARSAL, thank you.

CLASSES ON THE MONDAY 5TH JUNE (PUBLIC HOLIDAY) ARE COMPULSORY FOR THE CLASSES IN THE SENIOR CONCERT.

This includes PG 6, 8 & 9, Grade 6 & Advanced 2 Ballet, thanks.

 PERMISSION SLIPS

It is paramount we receive your permission slips by May 31st.

 PARENT HELPERS

Only the specified Parent Helper or designated helpers have access back stage with their class, for the rehearsal and concert. (There is barely enough room for the performers).

THERE ARE MANY CLASSES STILL SHORT OF HELPERS. We first started asking in the January newsletter, so hopefully with six months notice we can get the required help. Please let us know if you or a trusted friend or relative can help dressing your group, assisting with hair and make-up and generally supervising them side stage. If it is possible for your friend or relative to help this means instead of buying them a ticket, they can watch side stage and you can relax and watch the show.

 PRE-PERFORMANCE

All students are needed at the theatre half an hour before curtain up.

There will be sign in check point in front of the dressing rooms, before they are handed over to the designated Parent Helper.

 AUDIENCE MEMBERS

Please arrive on time and please allow half an hour for parking. There is no late entry into the auditorium. The auditorium doors will only be opened in emergencies other than interval. (This does not include toilet breaks) Please only exit the auditorium at interval (not after your child’s item) Please remain seated whilst all items are in progress.

NO LATE ENTRY INTO THE AUDITORIUM

Theatre etiquette is adhered to, as in all public performances in professional venues .

COSTUME LEVIES. Will be issued in the next few weeks. Please check your invoices for due dates and personal dress requirements.

As per the March Newsletter, most students will be required to purchase their own costumes, via D.C. We are only just finding out now (in week 3) exactly which students are continuing and going into the concert. We can now start working on the finalities of what costumes work best.

The cost to purchase a costume will vary between $45- $75.00, depending how many items are involved and how many hours of alterations are needed on each costume.

In some cases classes will hire their costumes from between $40-$65. These are mostly ballet classes where D.C. has outlaid over $150.00 for the tutu, overlay and leotard and accessories.

TAKING CARE OF COSTUMES

Costumes must not be worn to and from the theatre. No eating and drinking (only water) once in costume.

 PERSONAL COSTUME REQUIREMENTS

Please check you have your dance shoes, tights, flesh dance knickers, make-up, hair requirements etc, with adequate spare hair pins, hair nets, hair spray etc. Also name all belongings such as shoes etc. .

Children with outstanding fees and costume levies will unfortunately not be issued with a costume.

 PARENT HELPERS – TRANSPORTING COSTUMES

PLEASE URGENTLY LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP.

We need help with the transporting of the costume boxes to and from the theatre. The students need help with sorting their costumes out in between rehearsal and the show. At the end of the performance it is necessary that hired costumes are placed back in their class boxes, so as the Parent Helpers can transport them back to Dance Central, at their next lesson.

COMMUNITY HOURS

If you know of any students who would like to do their community hours please let us know, we can certainly use their help, for both concerts but especially at our Junior concert, in October.

STUDENTS CELEBRATING TEN YEARS WITH DANCE CENTRAL
Please let us know a.s.a.p. if it’s your ten year anniversary for the concert awards, that would be great.

 EATING BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE

We have gone with a 5pm start to get our families home relatively early, on a Sunday night. Therefore it is paramount that the performers eat well after their rehearsal and before the performance.

 WISHING EVERYONE A WONDERFUL CONCERT

It really is great fun and a wonderful experience for the performers. The sense of achievement and confidence boost is amazing. Please take your time to read all the information provided, so as you are well informed and we all have an enjoyable time. Many thanks.

Classes continue after the concert until Friday 30th June

Dance Central

SENIOR DANCE CONCERT.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE INFORMATION.

CONCERT: SUNDAY 11 JUNE, 5pm.

5.00 –7.00pm (approx.)

These are approximate finish times, as these times are affected by the audience being seated and ready to go at 5pm sharp.

  • Students need to arrive no later than half an hour before the concert commences.

Please report to reception, before 4.30pm to have your name ticked off.

From there a staff member will escort the student to backstage/dressing rooms,

where only official Parent Helpers and DC staff are permitted. Unfortunately we

cannot have any unauthorised members of the public (family) backstage. There is

barely enough room for the performers. Also we cannot allow any Dads (males)

backstage as our female performers are constantly dressing and redressing.

  • The students are required to stay at the theatre for the duration of the

concert. Once your child’s item is finished they need to stay in their dressing

room. There are TV monitors in each dressing room with a live feed to the show.

  • In case of an emergency it is possible to communicate with your child during the

interval break. The Children stay in their dressing room attended by their Parent

Helper and wait for the Finale. (where all the students go on stage again)

  • No performers are allowed in the auditorium for any part of the concert.
  • Please do not TRY TO EXIT THE AUDITORIUM (AFTER YOUR CHILD’S ITEM)

PLEASE WAIT UNTIL INTERVAL. The doors will not be opening in between items,

unless it is a medical emergency.

  • DANCE CENTRAL IS NOT responsible for the supervision of children once their

rehearsal concludes. It is best if the students are taken out for some fresh air, or

taken home for a rest and well fed. We then resume responsibility at 4.30pm, half

  an hour before curtain up.

.AT THE END OF THE CONCERT students will be available for pick up FIFTEEN

MINUTES AFTER THE CONCERT CONCLUDES. It takes time to redress and

account for costumes. If costumes are not accounted for, you will be liable for their

full cost. Students are required to help pick up any rubbish left in dressing rooms.

PLEASE JUST SEND 1 FAMILY MEMBER TO COLLECT YOUR CHILD AT THE DRESSING ROOM ENTRANCE after the concert. MANY THANKS

Account name: Dance Central
BSB: 016 008 Account no: 350 616 577

PAYING FEES @ RECEPTION
It would be wonderful if Parents could arrive fifteen minutes prior to class when paying fees or being fitted for dance clothes/shoes, so as we can give you our undivided attention.  It is a priority at the changeover of classes for the Receptionist to book in students & look out for unattended toddlers/children, making a run for the door.

WHISPER ZONE & TODDLERS
In consideration for our reception staff it is necessary to have a “whisper zone” in the front reception area. Please refrain from using mobile phones in this area. If you regard our reception area like one at a medical surgery, our receptionists will be able to hear the phone and be able to communicate effectively with Parents by phone, who may have an important message for their child.

Please keep toddlers at arm’s length.

It is dangerous for them not be to supervised at all times please, thanks.

It is not safe for them to run /climb up the stairs to studio 1. PLEASE supervise their  eating in the building. Please let us know if there are any mishaps, we are happy to help with any cleaning up.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY. EATING IN THE BUILDING. Please respect our dance studio/work place
A dance studio is a special place, much like a Dojo. Please respect our dance studio by not empting the sand from children’s shoes in the waiting room and not leaving food scraps on the floor in the waiting area.

Please keep our environment safe.

NO FOOD AND DRINKS IN THE DANCE STUDIOS – ONLY WATER
We do not allow sticky drinks into the dance studios or food scraps and wrappers left lying around, as it is an occupational health & safety hazard.

VITAL COMMUNICATION
All of our newsletters are available online on our website www.dance-central.net

As we are very keen for everyone to remain informed we also print off hard copies, to cover all bases.

Newsletters are how we communicate with You the parent. We have a lot of lovely Dance Central families and like any organisation or event that involves large groups of people we need to have procedures in place, so as we can offer you excellent service. Important information regarding safety issues, concert information, auditions, exams and enrolment days are published in at least six issues per year. Please see January Newsletter for many   SAFETY ISSUES so as we can keep our environment safe.

NUT FREE ZONE
Please observe our nut free zone policy. Nearly every day of the week we have children attending Dance Central who have serious nut allergies. Thanks.

ARRIVING ON TIME

Thank you for insuring the children get to class on time and to our very professional teachers who never run more than ONE minute late. We ask that, all students be punctual for the start of class and please do not arrive at the building any earlier than 15 minutes prior to your class commencing.

ARRIVING ON TIME (continued)

Unfortunately students who arrive late for class and miss the warm up cannot be admitted to class, due to safe dance practise procedures, thanks.

The official time frame we are responsible for your child is the minute their class commences up until the minute it finishes.

Your child’s safety is paramount to us and we have many safety procedures in place. They can be found in the January newsletter. Please take the time to read it thoroughly for your benefit.

 WATER BOTTLES
Please encourage your child to bring a WATER BOTTLE TO EVERY CLASS.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
We hope that students attend most classes. Please phone in if you know your child will be absent. Good attendance also keeps their dance technique on track, helping with consistency.

BALLET EXAMS

There will be an individual Ballet Newsletters before end of term with lots of news and facts on exams for 2017.

We are very lucky that D.C. is a recognised state exam venue. This means our students do not have to travel to unfamiliar venues (often on the other side of town) to sit their ballet exams.

  PERFORMANCE GROUPS

GROUP COMPETITIONS & SOLOS  @PENRHOS

There has been an individual P.G. Newsletters last week with lots of news and facts on the April Competitions.

DANCE CONCERTS 2017
The Senior Dance Concert is scheduled for Sunday 11th June which is towards the end of Term 2.

A separate Junior Concert will be held, October 21 and 22, at the beginning of term 4. (with the exception of  the 3-4 year old Creative Dance Beginner classes-they do not do any public performances in their first year. )

Most students will be required to purchase their own costumes, via D.C.

The cost will vary between $45- $75.00, depending how many items are involved and how many hours of alterations are needed on each costume.

In some cases classes will hire their costumes from between $40-$65. These are mostly ballet classes where D.C. has outlaid over $150.00 for the tutu, overlay and leotard and accessories.

HELPERS @ THE CONCERT

We are interested in establishing Parent Helpers for each class. It helps us with

  • the general transporting of costumes to the venue etc. and
  • also help throughout the concerts, supervising children in the dressing rooms.

A TRUSTED FRIEND

Please let reception know if you or a trusted friend can help at our concerts, and please leave your contact details/ times available etc. with reception.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

If you have any lovely big sisters or good friends or relatives who need to fulfil their community hours for secondary schooling, please let us know. It is a very rewarding experience to be involved in the dance concert helping the children back stage or in the canteen.

We would love to hear from you.

After much dialogue with the council we believe they will be reducing the speed limit on Queen Victoria St.

SAFETY OUTSIDE THE VENUE

It is our policy not to let children wait for their parents unattended outside the doors of the venue. Parents or designated carers are expected to come inside and collect students please. Safety is an important issue.

DELIVERING CHILDREN TO CLASS

Unless the younger children get delivered directly to the teacher, the teacher may be unaware they are possibly downstairs
playing. The teacher cannot be responsible for your child until class begins and they sight your child having entered the specific studio.

INFORMING OTHERS

If you have a fabulous friend or Grand Parent who is helping you out and taking the children to dance for the first
time, please just take a moment to run the parking arrangements by them.

PARKING ARRANGEMENTS

Thank you so much for adhering to our Parking arrangements. It is greatlyappreciated for everybody’s well being.

JUST IN CASE YOU ARE UNSURE

The 4 bays at the front of our building are shared between our 15 staff. It cuts down on the danger of cars driving in and out of
the driveway. There is NO PARKING IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND DEFINITELY NO DROP OFFS ALLOWED across the driveway or across our neighbour’s driveway, PLEASE.

PARKING CONTINUED

It is our only SAFE access to the building where Families are entering and exiting the building. If everyone attempted to drive in and drop off we would have 30 cars on the hour. It makes no difference that you are there for just 1 minute; we just cannot have you there at all. We are serious about safety!

Also I have been asked to address the parents who park on the foot path in front of the premises. This also is dangerous because cars are still driving over our only entrance point. Thanks.

THE BEST PLACES TO PARK

The car park at  “Short Black Sheep” Café (25 bays) is a good option for parking. They also have very yummy food and coffee. This is the safest place to park.

The North Fremantle Post office has 20 bays and there is limited street parking – 15 minutes only.
The Bottle shop has asked us to warn our people that unless you are shopping in there, they are now registered to administer fines and will do so. Best to be forewarned.

UN WELL STUDENTS

We ask that you keep all un well students at home. We do not wish that any other students are infected and hope to limit the
risk of any of our teachers being sick and consequently cancelling their lessons.

RELIEF / GUEST TEACHERS

There may be an occasion when your child has a guest teacher in place of their regular teacher, also due to illness.
Hopefully there can be some good opportunities arising from these occasions.

ARRIVING ON TIME

Thank you for insuring the children get to class on time and to our very professional teachers who never run more than ONE
minute late. We ask that, all students be punctual for the start of class.

Unfortunately students who arrive late for class and miss the warm up cannot be admitted due to safe dance practise
procedures, thanks.

LOST PROPERTY

There is a lot of unnamed lost property every week and dozens of drink bottles.
Please label your belongings.

BALLET EXAMS

We are very lucky that D.C. is a recognised state exam venue. This means our students do not have to travel to unfamiliar venues (often on the other
side of town) to sit their ballet exams.
Both Junior and Senior ballet exams will be scheduled for August 2017.

CURRICULUM COUNCIL
The Curriculum Council of Western Australia credit points towards years 10,11 and 12 final marks for academic credit
for senior ballet exams.

CURRICULUM COUNCIL continued.

It is great to see the recognition of the ballet skills and that they are taken seriously. The students dedication to their
art form can also benefit their academic achievements.

HAIR : BALLET BUN REQUIRED AT EVERY LESSON.

Grooming is an important part of ballet.

Every lesson the girls are required to wear their hair in a NEAT ballet bun, including a hair net. A pony tail wizzed around in a scrunchy (that generally falls out) does not meet the criteria; it is not a neat ballet bun. Please see the diagrams on the back page or feel free to google how to do a ballet bun if you need more help.

Pink ballet tights are compulsory for Grade 3 upwards all year.

Primary to Grade 2, tights only compulsory after summer.

Ballet bun hair essential hair pack.

I have put together a hair bun essentials pack for the busy families. It is made up of a canvas make- up case (It’s 22cm long with two zip compartments, for now. These details may change on the availability of this item.). It contains 4 hairnets, 2 hair elastics, 1 comb, 36 bun hair pins, 36 straight clips (for the fringe). The CASH PRICE is $10.00, thanks.

DANCE CONCERTS 2017

This year we have scheduled the Senior Dance Concert towards the end of Term 2. Date : June 11 .
And separate Junior Concerts, will be held, October 21 and 22, at the beginning of term 4. (with the exception of  the 3-4 year old Creative Dance Beginner classes-they do not do any public performances in their first year. ).

Most students will be required to purchase their own costumes, via D.C.

We are interested in establishing Parent Helpers for each class. It helps us with

• the general transporting of costumes to the venue etc. and
• also help throughout the concerts, supervising children in the dressing rooms.

A TRUSTED FRIEND

Please let reception know if you or a trusted friend can help at our concerts
and please leave your contact details/ times available etc. with reception.

community hours for secondary schooling, please let us know. It is a very
rewarding experience to be involved in the dance concert helping the children
back stage or in the canteen. We would love to hear from you.

EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR YOUR BRAIN

We all know exercise is good for our body and also our brain. It was so good to see so many of our year twelve girls keeping up their vigorous dance schedules throughout the year and congratulations they aced their exam results!!!!

Please see some interesting facts to follow.

• Breaking a sweat boosts production of BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) which helps with mental acuity, learning and
memory.
• It reduces stress and increased the body’s threshold for the stress hormone cortisol, making you more resistant to daily stress.
• It slows age-associated memory loss. It helps promote growth in this area.
• It helps you learn new things as it enhances your “muscle memory”.
• It helps beat the blues as our pituitary gland releases endorphins as we exercise.
• Exercise is more effective than many medications.
• It can reduce depression and have the same kind of effect on less serious mood issues too.
• Let’s get to it !!!!

ENROLMENTS FOR 2017 CLASSES

It is highly recommended you take advantage of the Priority Enrolment System. Last year there were students who unfortunately missed out on places for 2016, when they left it until the New Year to re-enrol. We accept enrolments for existing students from our 2016 class lists form December 1 -17.

It is possible to come into reception and secure your deposits from December 1-17 but Reception Staff do not have the capacity or time frame, to advise you of the most suitable class options. Our teachers are also not in a position to discuss your enrolments details whilst they are teaching back to back classes.
PRIORITY ENROLMENTS for existing students from 2016

• The Dance Timetable for 2017 will be available from December 1. ALL existing students are required to re-enrol from December 1 – 17, if they wish to secure a place for 2017.

• A $50.00 non refundable deposit is required per class per student. This will be the only way to secure a place for 2017.

• After December 17, all existing vacancies are open to the general public.

• Re-enrolments are the responsibility of the Parents.

• No student is automatically re-enrolled.

We would love to see you on our Re-Enrolment day Saturday 17 December 9 – 12pm . If you would prefer to engage in discussion about your child’s dance needs we encourage you to please attend on this day and speak with the teachers.

We already have extensive waiting lists for 2017 and we would prefer to give you the first opportunity for a place in the most suitable class.
