COMMUNICATION

We have always provided comprehensive information with lots of notice re time frames and important dates.  We re-issue multiple hard copies BUT ARE HOPING TO MOSTLY USE EMAIL from now on.

On our website www.dance-central.net the Newsletters can be found under the tab for timetable and fees.

COMMUNICATION

We have had a website for 12 years where all term dates, fee structures, banking info, important dates re concerts and auditions has been readily accessible.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
We hope that students attend most classes. Please phone in if you know your child will be absent. Good attendance also keeps their dance technique on track, helping with consistency and the class as a whole can progress……and it’s rewarding and good fun!

BALLET EXAMS

There have been individual ballet newsletters with lots of news and facts on exams for 2018. We are very lucky that D.C. is a recognized state exam venue. This means our students do not have to travel to unfamiliar venues (often on the other side of town) to sit their exams. Exams commence 8th August.

SOLOISTS AT THE RECENT  COMPETITIONS @PENRHOS  and Choreographic Festival

Congratulations to our soloists and teachers for producing beautiful work at the April competitions.

Congratulations also to our Pre Intermediate students who produced their own choreography for the AICD Choreographic Festival in March.

Our six Performance Groups will be representing Dance Central in the October competitions. They commence Friday 21st September.

COSTUMES- DANCE CONCERTS .

 “The Adventures of Alice”

Many classes are involved in the theme of Alice in Part 1, some Senior classes and performance Groups will be in part 2 of the performance, in the Showcase.

There will be a combination of classes hiring costumes from our stock and some that will be purchasing costumes.

Generally costume hire fees vary between $45-$65, depending on how many costume pieces are involved or what outlay there has been to add to an existing costume set etc. Some of the ballet tutus have a replacement value of $150-$200.

I can  spend two to three hours altering a basic part of the costume, or an entire days work on just one article, hence these hire fees are greatly subsidised.

Purchasing costumes may range between $45 – $75.00 for our recreational classes. The P.G.costumes are valued at approx  $130.00 a costume.

HELPERS @ THE CONCERT

We are interested in establishing Parent helpers for each class. We need help with  the general transporting of costumes to and from the venue etc. and also help is needed throughout the concerts, supervising children in dressing rooms.

A TRUSTED FRIEND

Please let reception know if you have a   trusted friend who can help, so that you can sit and relax and watch your child. Please leave your contact details/ times available etc. with reception.

PURCHASING TICKETS VIA TRYBOOKINGS.

This year we will have an early bird price for tickets. Tickets will open 1st July and be available at this price until-1st August. Adult tickets will be (the same as the last four years) $38.00 and Child $18.00. Students dancing do not need a ticket. We will have a link on the home page of our website, to take you directly to the Trybooking website.

We have scheduled three performances which is necessary if we choose to use a theatre close to home, as JC has a small auditorium. The three concerts are necessary so that all Parents can attend.

Other alternatives are using a larger venue, like the Crown Theatre Perth, where one concert would run for five hours. We choose to more user friendly and stick with a local venue and multiple shows.

It is often challenging to finance concerts without a crystal ball and often much of the process is subsidized. Therefore we are attempting to plan ahead with the availability of cheaper early bird tickets.

Most Junior classes will be dancing in just one concert. We have three baby “Alice” classes, three “Flowers “ classes and three “T-Party” classes etc. so as to alternate classes at the three concerts.

Generally classes aged nine years and upwards will be in the three concerts, so as we can present all elements of the story line. Classes are grouped accordingly.

We have spent many hours and done our best to keep as many families together in the same concert but every class dancing has at least 3 scenarios of either siblings to consider in other classes, or the student attends multiple classes.

Proposed list of Concert Classes dancing in just one show

 Concert 1  – Saturday 20th October @ 4pm

  • Flowers: Tuesday 4pm CJC (Laura)
  • Baby Alices: Thursday 3.45 Grade 1 (Gab)
  • T-party: Tuesday 4.45 JHH (Laura)
  • NO CATS/MICE

Concert 2- Sunday 21st October @11am

  • Baby Alices: Saturday 9.30 Creative Dance (Rosie)

If your class is not mentioned in the above list, they are dancing in all three performances. The only reason the above list would change is if we do not get enough tickets sold to do the three concerts.

COSTUME INVOICES

In order to get the ball rolling I have outlaid thousands of dollars already, in fabrics, accessories and deposits.

Accounts will be issued at the commencement of term 3 for part payments of costume deposits.

CLASSICAL BALLET CLASSES 2018

Welcome to the first of our Classical Ballet Newsletters for 2018.

It is very encouraging to see how well our Ballet Classes are progressing in 2018. Hoping most Parents can attend Parent Watching Week, Saturday 7th – Friday 13th April.

We are very proud of what the students have achieved thus far.

We have introduced different teachers to different grades in 2018. They are all regular Dance Central staff who hope to further inspire the students with a different class perspective.

Pre/ Primary –  Taught by Gabrielle on Wednesday 3.45-4.30pm.

Grade 1 – Taught by Gabrielle on Thursday 3.45-4.30pm

Grade 2 – Taught by Gabrielle on Tuesday 3.45-4.45pm

Grade 3 –  Taught by Gabrielle Wednesday 4.30pm, Saturdays 10.45am by Rosie

Grade 4 – Taught by Lisa Thursday 4.30pm &  Saturdays 1.00pm

Pre Grade 6 – Taught by Gabrielle Tuesdays  4.45pm & Thursdays 4.30pm

Students will sit an internal exam exam for Pre-Grade 6 in 2018.

Pre Intermediate – Taught by Gabrielle Mon 4.30pm & Thursdays 5.30pm

Students will sit an internal exam exam for Pre-Intermediate in 2018.

 STRENGTH, STRENTHENING AND CONDITIONING

We hope you see at P.W.W. that we have a very sound programme in place to ensure the students are getting regular flexibility, strengthening and conditioning exercises. We do these exercises before and after the barre work commences when the students are warmed up. There has been a considerable improvement in these areas. We would love to see the students practise some more in their own time so as to consolidate their class work.

STRETCHING IN GENERAL

We would love to have a regular stretch class on the timetable again but in the past we did not get enough attendance. So this means the students need to do their stretching regularly at home because 5-10 minutes each class is not enough to get the desired results.

Australian Institute of Classical Dance

In 2016 Gabrielle was elected onto the National Committee for the Australian Institute of Classical Dance, as the West Australian Representative and Chairperson of the West Australian Branch of the AICD.

Last year I was the National Examiner for Victoria, this year I am to be the National Examiner for Adelaide in November.

It’s been possible for me to organise events in WA that are highly subsidised by the AICD that our older students have benefitted from. Workshops at WAAPA and Choreographic Festivals etc.

BALLET EXAM / INTERNAL ASSESSMENT ENTRANTS

Dance Central follows the Borovansky Exam syllabus.

Edouard Borovansky first came to Australia in 1929 to accompany Anna Pavlova with the Ballet Russes. He stayed on and formed the Borovansky Ballet Company, commencing in 1940. It evolved into the Australian Ballet Company in 1962, as we know it today.

 EXAM /ASSESSMENT DATES & VENUE. :

To be held at Dance Central. We are very lucky that D.C. is recognised as a State Exam venue. The proposed dates for both the Junior & Senior exams will be early to mid August.

The students go in to the exam in groups of four. We may need to have a Mock Exam for each of the group prior to the exam, so as they can practise where to stand in their formations.

We will be running a holiday program in week 2 of the school holidays,  Students are required to attend the Holiday programme Tuesday 10 July through to Friday 13th July for Grade 1 upwards, and just the Thursday 12th & Friday 13th for Pre/Primary. All info is on our website and the last page of this newsletter.

Payments for exams and holiday program will be due week 2 of term 2 as we must arrange our entries and pay the National body, well in advance of them organising the National examiners airfares and accommodation etc. Please check at reception if you need help with the pricing.

Please complete the questionnaire about your involvement in the Ballet Exam process. We will need to get our entries in, in the next few weeks.

Dance Central BALLET ATTIRE

All students up to Grade 4 are required to wear a pink Sansha leotard and pink Sansha wrap chiffon skirt. (it is best normally from age 10 upwards for the girls to go into a lined leotard now-available at D.C.)  All exam entrants need to be in the same colour leotard, not a variation on a theme from elsewhere. Students from Grade 5 upwards are required to wear Lunar blue.

Dance Central CHARACTER SKIRTS

All students from Grade 2 upwards are required to purchase the Sansha navy blue character skirt (with ribbons sewn on). It is available from Dance Central, They are $60.00.

We fit them long enough so that the girls will get several years worth of growth. They wear them every week in class as a part of their ballet uniform for “Character work”.

She received the highest mark in Grade 6 in WA, which consisted of  $300 towards her dance fees at Dance Central. Congratulations to Audrey and her ballet teachers.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PRE- INTERMEDIATE CLASS

Many class members participated in The Choreographic Festival, held by the Australian Institute of Classical Dance on Sunday 18th March, at the Swan Park theatre, Midvale. It was fabulous to watch and very rewarding !

SECOND NEWSLETTER

Hello again and welcome to Dance Central for those who have joined recently. We hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful term of dance classes.

It appears we are still missing many up to date emails, therefore the bulk email including the January newsletter didn’t get to everyone, so please find a hard copy also included.

We would love to cut down on hard copy distribution of newsletters. They are always on our website and we’d like to regularly email them.

We’ve now done away with the Dance Central APP as it was too expensive to maintain and it wasn’t being used. So from term 2 we will continue to email newsletters but not persist with also including hard copies.

BOOKING CLASSES FOR TERM 2

If you need any help please see or call reception or email us through the website message system www.dance-central.net and we will be happy to help.

TOTAL OF DANCE FEES DUE BY FRIDAY 7th APRIL, thanks.

We normally issue accounts in Week 5 and we hope that they are paid in week 7, so that we can plan ahead to insure we have viable classes and also inform students on waitlists.

 DISCOUNTED FEES

Bulk discounts rates WILL ONLY BE  applicable until 14.04.18. After that discounts are forfeited and a late fee of $20 is incurred, as we need to employ staff to come in the holidays to update lists and admin for the late payers, if their places are still available.

 EASTER – no classes.

We will be observing the Easter Week-end and we WILL NOT run classes on Good Friday 30th March, Easter Saturday 31st March or Monday 2nd April. It will have been an 11 week term.

DATES FOR TERM 1 PARENT WATCHING WEEK

 Saturday 7 April – Friday 13th April

 VITAL COMMUNICATION
Please see January Newsletter for many   SAFETY ISSUES so as we can keep our environment safe.

  ARRIVING ON TIME

The official timeframe we are responsible for your child is the minute their class commences up until the minute it finishes

If you need to arrive early, it is your obligation to remain with your child if they are under 10 years old, until their class commences.

We have quite a few students who are dropped and left unattended, well before their class commences.

Please don’t be offended if we let you know at the time – when you are walking out the door- that it’s not ok to do so.

We ask that all students be punctual for the start of class. It can be disconcerting for a young child if they are late and miss the name games etc.

Unfortunately students who arrive 15 minutes late for class and miss the warm up cannot be admitted to class, due to safe dance practise procedures, thanks.

Your child’s safety is paramount to us and we have many safety procedures in place. They can be found in the January newsletter. Please take the time to read it thoroughly for your benefit.

 PERFORMANCE GROUPS

GROUP COMPETITIONS & SOLOS  @PENRHOS

There will also be an individual P.G. Newsletters with lots of news and facts on the Competition options.

ALEX RETURNS IN MARCH.

Alex Shoenmaekers will be back from overseas and taking back her classes from March onwards.

DANCE CONCERTS 2018

 “The Adventures of Alice”
We will be amalgamating our Junior & Senior concerts in October

The concerts will be over the week-end of October 20 and 21, at the beginning of term 4. (with the exception of  the 3-4 year old Creative Dance Beginner classes-they do not do any public performances in their first year. )

Full Dress rehearsals: Saturday 13th October and Saturday 20th October. Performances Saturday 20th October : 4pm & Sunday 21st October : 11am & 3pm.

COSTUMING

Most students will be required to purchase their own costumes, via D.C.

The cost will vary between $45- $75.00, depending how many items are involved and how many hours of alterations are needed on each costume. In some cases classes will hire their costumes from between $40-$65.  These are mostly ballet classes where D.C. has outlaid over $150.00 for the tutu, overlay and leotard and accessories.

P.G. costuming information can be found in your “Agreement email” January 2018.

TEACHERS ARRIVING

Often we have teachers arriving mid evening to teach. They can’t get into our driveway if Parents are parked across it. It’s not ok that they then have to park elsewhere and find their car at 9pm in the dark, in a less safe place than our car park- which is well lit and under video surveillance.

Thanks again Parents.

Kind Regards,

Gabrielle Cronan

Principal

 PAYING FEES ONLINE

It is important to give as much information as possible including student’s full name and class details so as we can cross reference fee payments.

Account name: Dance Central

BSB: 016 008 Account no: 350 616 577

 PAYMENTS MADE AT THE BANK

Unfortunately if you directly pay over the

counter at the bank, they cannot give us any reference to the Payer. In these

circumstances it would be best to phone us with your payments details so as we can allocate the funds correctly, thanks.

 PAYING FEES @ RECEPTION

It would be wonderful if Parents could arrive fifteen minutes prior to class when paying fees or being fitted for dance clothes/shoes, so as we can give you our undivided attention.

WHISPER ZONE & keeping toddlers safe

In consideration for our reception staff it is necessary to have a “whisper zone” in the front reception area. Please refrain from using mobile phones in this area. Please keep toddlers at arms length, They are NEVER to run around the building, up and down stairs unattended. Many thanks

EATING IN THE BUILDING

Please keep our environment safe. If parents could supervise their small children when they are eating in the building that would be great. Please let reception know if there are any mishaps that need cleaning up.

 NUT FREE ZONE

Please observe our nut free zone policy. Nearly every day of the week we have children attending Dance Central who have serious nut allergies. Thanks.

Please keep our students safe. We cannot have sticky drinks spilt on the dance floor or food scraps and wrappers left lying around as it is an occupational health & safety hazard.

 WATER BOTTLES

Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle to every class.

 SPEED LIMIT REDUCTION

After much dialogue with the council we believe they will be reducing the speed limit on Queen Victoria St.

 SAFETY OUTSIDE THE VENUE

It is our policy not to let children wait for their parents unattended outside the doors of the venue. Parents or designated carers are expected to come inside and collect students please.

Safety is an important issue.

playing. The teacher cannot be responsible for your child until class begins and they sight your child having entered the specific studio.

 INFORMING OTHERS

 PARKING ARRANGEMENTS

Thank you so much for adhering to our Parking arrangements. It is greatly appreciated for everybody’s well being.

JUST IN CASE YOU ARE UNSURE

The 4 bays at the front of our building are shared between our 15 staff. It cuts down on the danger of cars driving in and out of

the driveway. There is NO PARKING IN OUR DRIVEWAY AND DEFINITELY NO DROP OFFS ALLOWED across the driveway or across our neighbour’s driveway, PLEASE.

It is our only SAFE access to the building where Families are entering and exiting the building. If everyone attempted to drive in and drop off we would have 30 cars on the hour. It makes no difference that you are there for just 1 minute; we just cannot have you there at all.

We are serious about safety!

Also I have been asked to address the parents who park on the foot path in front of the premises. This also is dangerous because cars are still driving over our only entrance point. Thanks.

 THE BEST PLACES TO PARK

The car park at Ooh La La and “Bruce town” Cafés (25 bays) is a good option for parking. They also have very yummy food and coffee. This is the safest place to park.

The North Fremantle Post office has 20 bays and there is limited street parking – 15 minutes only.

The Bottle shop has asked us to warn our people that unless you are shopping in there, they are now registered to administer fines and will do soBest to be forewarned.

 UN WELL STUDENTS

We ask that you keep all unwell students at home. We do not wish that any other students are infected and hope to limit the risk of any of our teachers being sick and consequently cancelling their lessons.

 RELIEF / GUEST TEACHERS

There may be an occasion when your child has a guest teacher in place of their regular teacher, also due to illness.

Hopefully there can be some good opportunities arising from these occasions. Alex Shoenmaekers will be overseas for most of February, so her classes will be covered by another fabulous Dance Central teacher.

ARRIVING ON TIME

Thank you for insuring the children get to class on time and to our very professional teachers who never run more than ONE minute late. We ask that, all students be punctual for the start of class.

Unfortunately students who arrive late for class and miss the warm up cannot be admitted due to safe dance practise procedures, thanks.

 LOST PROPERTY

There is a lot of unnamed lost property every week and dozens of drink bottles. Please label your belongings.

BALLET EXAMS

We are very lucky that D.C. is a recognised state exam venue. This means our students do not have to travel to unfamiliar venues (often on the other side of town) to sit their ballet exams.

Both Junior and Senior ballet exams will be scheduled for August 2018.

 CURRICULUM COUNCIL

The Curriculum Council of Western Australia credit points towards years 10, 11 and 12 final marks for academic credit for senior ballet exams.

It is great to see the recognition of the ballet skills and that they are taken seriously. The students dedication to their art form can also benefit their academic achievements.

HAIR : BALLET BUN REQUIRED AT EVERY LESSON.

Grooming is an important part of ballet.

Every lesson the girls are required to wear their hair in a NEAT ballet bun, including a hair net. A pony tail wizzed around in a scrunchy (that generally falls out) does not meet the criteria; it is not a neat ballet bun.  Please see the diagrams on the back page or feel free to Google how to do a ballet bun if you need more help.

Pink ballet tights are compulsory for Grade 3 upwards all year.

Primary to Grade 2, tights only compulsory after summer.

Ballet bun hair essential hair pack.

I have put together a hair bun essentials pack for the busy families.

It is made up of a canvas make- up case (It’s 22cm long with two zip compartments, for now. These details may change on the availability of this item.). It contains 4 hairnets, 2 hair elastics, 1 comb, 36 bun hair pins, 36 straight clips (for the fringe). The CASH PRICE is $10.00, thanks.

 PERFORMANCE GROUPS COMPETITIONS @PENRHOS

DANCE CONCERTS 2018

Concerts:  20 & 21 October 2018

All students are involved in the concerts with the exception of the 3-4 year old Creative Dance Beginner classes- they do not do any public performances in their first year.

Full Dress rehearsals: Saturday 13th October and Saturday 20th October. Performances Saturday 20th October : 4pm &

Sunday 21st October : 11am & 3pm.

Most students will be required to purchase their own costumes, via D.C. some classes will hire their costumes through D.C.

We are interested in establishing Parent Helpers for each class. It helps us with

  •  the general transporting of costumes to the venue etc. and
  • also help throughout the concerts, supervising children in the dressing rooms.

A TRUSTED FRIEND

Please let reception know if you or a trusted friend can help at our concerts and please leave your contact details/times available etc. with reception.

 COMMUNITY SERVICE

If you have any lovely big sisters or good friends or relatives who need to fulfill their community hours for secondary schooling, please let us know. It is a very rewarding experience to be involved in the dance concert helping the children back stage or in the canteen.

We would love to hear from you.

STUDENTS CELEBRATING 10 YEARS WITH DANCE CENTRAL

Please let us know a.s.a.p. if it’s your ten year anniversary for the concert awards, that would be great.

BOOTCAMP 2018

SOCIAL MEDIA INVOLVEMENT

Please ‘like’ our Facebook  page, Dance Central North Fremantle, or follow us on instagram @dancecentralofficial. We encourage the older students to send in photos & check the pages regularly. It is delightful to see the studio spirit these outlets have created for our dancers.

 THANK YOU PARENTS

Thank you for arranging to pay your fees by the due dates. Like all small businesses we are striving to keep our head above water. We are one of a few dance schools who invest heavily in our reception staff. We conduct enrollment days, where you sit down and speak with a teacher-it’s not all about online. We like to be personable and conduct classes in an orderly fashion, keeping good records and maintaining safety to an optimum. Keeping a watchful eye out concerning the safety of all children is a priority.  So please be mindful if you are seeking help at the reception desk on a busy changeover of class times, as Reception’s priority is to make sure that every young child leaving the building is accompanied by their attending adult.

 2017 DVD CONCERT ORDERS

It is possible to still place orders for both the Senior and Junior Concerts. Please order at receptions before the term break.

EXERCISE IS GOOD FOR YOUR BRAIN

We all know exercise is good for our body and also our brain. It was so good to see so many of our year twelve girls keeping up their vigorous dance schedules throughout the year and congratulations they aced their exam results!!!!

Please see some interesting facts to follow.

  • Breaking a sweat boosts production of BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) which helps with mental acuity, learning and

            memory.

  • It reduces stress and increased the body’s threshold for the stress hormone cortisol, making you more resistant to daily stress.
  • It slows age-associated memory loss. It helps promote growth in this area.
  •  It helps you learn new things as it enhances your “muscle memory”.
  • It helps beat the blues as our pituitary gland releases endorphin’s as we exercise.
  • Exercise is more effective than many medications.
  • It can reduce depression and have the same kind of effect on less serious mood issues too.
  •  Let’s get to it !!!!

PRIVATE LESSONS 2018

 SUMMER SCHOOL/BOOTCAMP 2018

Before we set timetables, schedule groups & book teachers etc it would be good to have some realistic feed back as to how many students are committing to Boot camp 2018. (Second request)

Term 1 will commence Monday 29th January. Performance Group Boot camp will be from Tuesday 23rd, 24th & 25th January. Nothing Friday 26th Australia Day.

It is really important that PG members maintain good fitness over the holiday period as it is unwise to jump back into training without any sort of conditioning, when you are working at an advanced level.

The students are expected to make a strong return at the commencement of 2018. Please email Gabrielle with your feedback.

JUNIOR DANCE CONCERT INFO, REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES

@ John Curtin College of the Arts, Ellen Street Fremantle.

Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 October- Term 4.

We hope everyone is enjoying term 3, which seems to be flying by. Most Junior classes are well an truly into their concert preparation and are looking forward to the performances. Please find more comprehensive information on the pages to follow.

We would like our concert and preparation to run as smoothly as possible and hope to ensure you are well informed. With many children and families involved we would hope you can follow our guide lines, to ensure everyone’s enjoyment and well being, thanks.

All classes in the concert attend the Performance venue on Saturday 21 October for a compulsory full dress rehearsal. The two concerts are on Sunday 22 October at 11am and 3pm. There will be a list of which classes dance in which concert. It is necessary to hold the two concerts, in order to cater for all our students’ families.

As we have several themes in this concert, classes are grouped accordingly. We have done our best to keep as many families together in the same concert but every class dancing has at least 3 scenarios of either siblings to consider in other classes, or the student attends multiple classes (in multiple themes). This list will be available soon.

Performance dates:

       SUNDAY 22nd OCTOBER @ 11am.

(The show will finish approx 1-1.30pm, depending on the audience being seated on time)

     SUNDAY 22nd OCTOBER @ 3pm.

(The show will finish approx 5-5.30pm, depending on the audience being seated on time)

 Performance tickets:

Tickets will be on sale as of 20 September. We will issue a reminder beforehand.

We are using www.trybookings.com again to manage our concert tickets. This is an online service where you purchase your tickets independently of Dance Central. The ticket price for Adults is $38.00 and Children $18.00. Students performing do not need a ticket.

Performance costumes:

Costume levies will be issued soon and will be due before September 20. We have already enlisted/paid dress makers, bought massive amounts of fabric and haberdashery etc. for over one thousand pieces of costumes. We have been working around the clock to provide this service.

In order to keep the prices down Gabrielle runs the costume department, designs the costumes, drafts any patterns, does all alterations (no sewing for Parents) and makes many of the costume sets. Unfortunately we do not have a stock like Target who would have a range of 12 sizes in every costume. Therefore a pattern needs to be specifically drafted for many of the students and everyone is catered for individually.

As per out earlier newsletters, students may be asked to either hire a costume or buy it outright. Generally the hire fees vary between $35-$45, depending on how many costume pieces or what outlay there has been to add to an existing costume set etc. I can  spend two to three hours altering just a basic part of the costume, or an entire days work on just one article, hence these hire fees are greatly subsidised.

Purchasing costumes may range between $60 – $90.00 for our recreational classes. Our  Performance Groups who represent us in state competitions pay up to $130.00 a costume.

COMPULSORY FULL DRESS REHEARSAL for all CLASSES.

To be held at John Curtin Performing Arts Centre, Ellen Street, Fremantle on Saturday 21st October from 9am – 8pm. Each class is allocated a 90 minute rehearsal period, for that day which will also include a photo shoot.

In order to take part in the concert every child must attend the compulsory Full Dress Rehearsal, so that we can create a safe environment for every child. Every dance is individually choreographed where every student has a specific place to stand, run, make different formations, work with partners etc. Without the rehearsal placement on stage, they would not know where to position themselves. It would be a safety risk if they had not rehearsed with their group

Please bring a drink bottle and healthy snack to the rehearsal. We may have the tuckshop open if we can get enough help.

“FULL DRESS REHEARSAL

A FULL DRESS REHEARSAL means: make-up, hair and costume, EXACTLY as worn in the concert. (NO jewellery, tattoos or nail polish thanks) This prepares the children for the concert, with no unwanted surprises on the day. Please arrive at the rehearsal with hair and make-up already completed if possible, in comfortable clothes preferably a zip up jacket, for easy dressing in and out of. Dance Central tracksuits are designed specifically for this sort of use, so as the hair does not get messed up, pulling jumpers over heads etc.

NO PARENTS OR VISITORS IN THE AUDITORIUM FOR THE REHEARSAL

OFFICIAL GROUP PHOTOS will be taken of all classes at the Full Dress rehearsal.

 PARENT HELPERS

Please let reception know if you or a trusted friend can help at our concerts

and please leave your contact details/times available etc. with reception Only the specified Parent Helper or designated helper has access back stage with their class, for the rehearsal and concert. There is barely enough room for the performers.

PARENT HELPERS (continued)

So if you think your child would benefit from having you there, PLEASE feel free to volunteer. THERE ARE MANY CLASSES STILL SHORT OF HELPERS.

We first started asking in the January newsletter, so hopefully with 7 months notice we can get the required help. Please let us know if you or a trusted friend or relative can help so as you can sit and relax and watch the show.

TRANSPORTING COSTUMES- PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP. We need the costume boxes to be taken to and from the theatre.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

If you have any lovely big sisters or good friends or relatives who need to fulfil their

Community hours for secondary schooling, please let us know. It is a very

rewarding experience to be involved in the dance concert helping the children

back stage or in the canteen. We would love to hear from you.

PERMISSION SLIPS

It is paramount we receive your permission slip by September 1st. However if you know now that you will not be participating in the concert, or term 4 please advise asap as it’s quite possible we have already started catering for your costume. Many thanks.

PRE-PERFORMANCE

Students are required 30 minutes before curtain up. Please allow half an hour for parking. There is no late entry into the auditorium.

There will be sign in check point in front of the dressing rooms, before they are handed over to the designated Parent Helper.

PROFESSIONAL VIDEO OF PERFORMANCE

We have a PROFESSIONAL VIDEO COMPANY filming the Concert, who does a very beautiful job. There are NO PERSONAL VIDEO CAMERAS allowed in the auditorium thanks as it is a breach of copyright. Concert videos will be available to buy, once the editing is completed.

Most families will tell you it is most watched DVD in the household and very good value for money at just $40.00

NO LATE ENTRY INTO THE AUDITORIUM

Theatre etiquette is adhered to, as in all public performances in professional venues.  Please arrive in advance of either an 11am or 3pm start. Please be mindful if you have newborns in the audience. It can be very upsetting for the little ones on stage if a baby is crying in the audience.

The auditorium doors will only be opened in emergencies other than interval. Please only exit the auditorium at interval. Please remain seated whilst all items are in progress.

  PERSONAL COSTUME REQUIREMENTS

You will be supplied with a list closer to costume time. It will include your regular    dance shoes, tights, flesh dance knickers, make-up, hair requirements etc, with  adequate spare hair pins, hair nets, hair spray etc.

Also please name all belongings such as shoes etc. and bring a dance bag.

Children with outstanding fees and costume levies will unfortunately not be issued    with a costume.

WISHING EVERYONE A WONDERFUL CONCERT

It really is great fun and a wonderful experience for the performers. The sense of achievement and confidence boost is amazing. Please take your time to read all the information provided, so as you are informed and we all have an enjoyable time.

Many thanks.

Classes continue after the concert until Friday 15 December.

Kind Regards,

Gabrielle Cronan.

Principal.

PAYING FEES @ RECEPTION
It would be wonderful if Parents could arrive fifteen minutes prior to class when paying fees or being fitted for dance clothes/shoes, so as we can give you our undivided attention.  It is a priority at the changeover of classes for the Receptionist to book in students & look out for unattended toddlers/children, making a run for the door.

WHISPER ZONE & TODDLERS
In consideration for our reception staff it is necessary to have a “whisper zone” in the front reception area. Please refrain from using mobile phones in this area. If you regard our reception area like one at a medical surgery, our receptionists will be able to hear the phone and be able to communicate effectively with Parents by phone, who may have an important message for their child.

Please keep toddlers at arm’s length.

It is dangerous for them not be to supervised at all times please, thanks.

It is not safe for them to run /climb up the stairs to studio 1. PLEASE supervise their  eating in the building. Please let us know if there are any mishaps, we are happy to help with any cleaning up.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY. EATING IN THE BUILDING. Please respect our dance studio/work place
A dance studio is a special place, much like a Dojo. Please respect our dance studio by not empting the sand from children’s shoes in the waiting room and not leaving food scraps on the floor in the waiting area.

Please keep our environment safe.

NO FOOD AND DRINKS IN THE DANCE STUDIOS – ONLY WATER
We do not allow sticky drinks into the dance studios or food scraps and wrappers left lying around, as it is an occupational health & safety hazard.

VITAL COMMUNICATION
All of our newsletters are available online on our website www.dance-central.net

As we are very keen for everyone to remain informed we also print off hard copies, to cover all bases.

Newsletters are how we communicate with You the parent. We have a lot of lovely Dance Central families and like any organisation or event that involves large groups of people we need to have procedures in place, so as we can offer you excellent service. Important information regarding safety issues, concert information, auditions, exams and enrolment days are published in at least six issues per year. Please see January Newsletter for many   SAFETY ISSUES so as we can keep our environment safe.

NUT FREE ZONE
Please observe our nut free zone policy. Nearly every day of the week we have children attending Dance Central who have serious nut allergies. Thanks.

ARRIVING ON TIME

Thank you for insuring the children get to class on time and to our very professional teachers who never run more than ONE minute late. We ask that, all students be punctual for the start of class and please do not arrive at the building any earlier than 15 minutes prior to your class commencing.

ARRIVING ON TIME (continued)

Unfortunately students who arrive late for class and miss the warm up cannot be admitted to class, due to safe dance practise procedures, thanks.

The official time frame we are responsible for your child is the minute their class commences up until the minute it finishes.

Your child’s safety is paramount to us and we have many safety procedures in place. They can be found in the January newsletter. Please take the time to read it thoroughly for your benefit.

 WATER BOTTLES
Please encourage your child to bring a WATER BOTTLE TO EVERY CLASS.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
We hope that students attend most classes. Please phone in if you know your child will be absent. Good attendance also keeps their dance technique on track, helping with consistency.

BALLET EXAMS

There will be an individual Ballet Newsletters before end of term with lots of news and facts on exams for 2017.

We are very lucky that D.C. is a recognised state exam venue. This means our students do not have to travel to unfamiliar venues (often on the other side of town) to sit their ballet exams.

  PERFORMANCE GROUPS

GROUP COMPETITIONS & SOLOS  @PENRHOS

There has been an individual P.G. Newsletters last week with lots of news and facts on the April Competitions.

DANCE CONCERTS 2017
The Senior Dance Concert is scheduled for Sunday 11th June which is towards the end of Term 2.

A separate Junior Concert will be held, October 21 and 22, at the beginning of term 4. (with the exception of  the 3-4 year old Creative Dance Beginner classes-they do not do any public performances in their first year. )

HELPERS @ THE CONCERT

We are interested in establishing Parent Helpers for each class. It helps us with

  • the general transporting of costumes to the venue etc. and
  • also help throughout the concerts, supervising children in the dressing rooms.

A TRUSTED FRIEND

Please let reception know if you or a trusted friend can help at our concerts, and please leave your contact details/ times available etc. with reception.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

If you have any lovely big sisters or good friends or relatives who need to fulfil their community hours for secondary schooling, please let us know.

Did you know we have our own Dance Central App , for the convenience of our  busy families.

THANK YOU PARENTS

Thank you for arranging to pay your fees by the due dates. Like all small business we are striving to keep our head above water. PAYMENTS MADE AT THE BANK

Unfortunately if you directly pay over the counter at the bank, they cannot give us any reference to the Payer. In these
circumstances it would be best to phone us with your payments details so as we can allocate the funds correctly, thanks.

We hope that students attend most classes. Please phone in if you know your child will be absent. Good attendance also keeps their dance technique on track, helping with consistency.

DELIVERING CHILDREN TO CLASS

Unless the younger children get delivered directly to the teacher, the teacher may be unaware they are possibly downstairs
playing. The teacher cannot be responsible for your child until class begins and they sight your child having entered the specific studio.

INFORMING OTHERS

If you have a fabulous friend or Grand Parent who is helping you out and taking the children to dance for the first
time, please just take a moment to run the parking arrangements by them.

PARKING ARRANGEMENTS

Thank you so much for adhering to our Parking arrangements. It is greatlyappreciated for everybody’s well being.

PARKING CONTINUED

It is our only SAFE access to the building where Families are entering and exiting the building. If everyone attempted to drive in and drop off we would have 30 cars on the hour. It makes no difference that you are there for just 1 minute; we just cannot have you there at all. We are serious about safety!

Also I have been asked to address the parents who park on the foot path in front of the premises. This also is dangerous because cars are still driving over our only entrance point. Thanks.

THE BEST PLACES TO PARK

The car park at  “Short Black Sheep” Café (25 bays) is a good option for parking. They also have very yummy food and coffee. This is the safest place to park.

The North Fremantle Post office has 20 bays and there is limited street parking – 15 minutes only.
The Bottle shop has asked us to warn our people that unless you are shopping in there, they are now registered to administer fines and will do so. Best to be forewarned.

UN WELL STUDENTS

We ask that you keep all un well students at home. We do not wish that any other students are infected and hope to limit the
risk of any of our teachers being sick and consequently cancelling their lessons.

RELIEF / GUEST TEACHERS

There may be an occasion when your child has a guest teacher in place of their regular teacher, also due to illness.
Hopefully there can be some good opportunities arising from these occasions.

ARRIVING ON TIME

Thank you for insuring the children get to class on time and to our very professional teachers who never run more than ONE
minute late. We ask that, all students be punctual for the start of class.

Unfortunately students who arrive late for class and miss the warm up cannot be admitted due to safe dance practise
procedures, thanks.

LOST PROPERTY

There is a lot of unnamed lost property every week and dozens of drink bottles.
Please label your belongings.

BALLET EXAMS

We are very lucky that D.C. is a recognised state exam venue. This means our students do not have to travel to unfamiliar venues (often on the other
side of town) to sit their ballet exams.
Both Junior and Senior ballet exams will be scheduled for August 2017.

CURRICULUM COUNCIL
The Curriculum Council of Western Australia credit points towards years 10,11 and 12 final marks for academic credit
for senior ballet exams.

CURRICULUM COUNCIL continued.

It is great to see the recognition of the ballet skills and that they are taken seriously. The students dedication to their
art form can also benefit their academic achievements.

• It helps you learn new things as it enhances your “muscle memory”.
• It helps beat the blues as our pituitary gland releases endorphins as we exercise.
• Exercise is more effective than many medications.
• It can reduce depression and have the same kind of effect on less serious mood issues too.
• Let’s get to it !!!!
