Dance Styles
Classical Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of dance, and is needed to strengthen technique for any style.
Dance Central enters students in an Australian credited dance exam syllabus through the Australian Institute of Classical Dance (AICD). All Dance Central Ballet staff are current and accredited members of the AICD.
To be eligible to sit AICD exam students from Grade 4 onwards must take a minimum of two ballet classes a week.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance draws on classical ballet and modern dance technique. Focusing on the use of contraction, release, floor work, fall and recovery, creating light and shade through movement. Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed, and direction are often used.
Jazz
A high-energy dance class with a focus on traditional jazz movements and technique. Students will learn a whole body warm up, isolation work, stretching, turns, progressions and leaps building to a choreographed routine. all begins with an idea.
Tap
This class promotes rhythm and frequent use of syncopation where the feet produce a percussion sound. It has a structured technique, which uses building blocks for improved and advanced technical steps in accordance with age and agility.
Hip Hop
Hip-Hop is an awesome workout with a well-structured class in keeping with current dance trends, with moves relevant to the student’s age. The class will also include basic grooves to assist with free-styling and hip-hop progressions. Containing styles of Hip-Hop, Waacking, Vogueing and Dancehall, this jam-packed class will push students to increase fitness, strength and musicality.
Acro
A perfect introduction to structured acrobatic class, specially designed for foundation movements. A great introduction to skills structured for safety. Students will work to learn basics of strength, flexibility, tumbling, limbering and balancing.
Toddlers Creative Dance
Creative Dance is a lovely introduction to Classical and Jazz movements for dancing toddlers. The students need to feel comfortable to participate without Parents in the class.
In 2021 we will be offering a NEW Thursday Morning Creative Class where parents are welcome to stay and Parent Participation in encouraged. Whilst the emphasis is on “learning is fun” the class is run in an orderly manner with educational structure.
Classical/Jazz Combo
A stepping-stone from Creative Dance, this class supports the foundation of both classical ballet and jazz dance. An excellent introduction to both slow and controlled technique for those who like to move lyrically and also the faster rhythms of jazz, for those who like to move at a faster pace.
